Title: 2.5" lift
Post by: lonesouth on February 11, 2013, 10:31:17 PM
think I'm going to get a pair of the wildhorses blemish 2.5" coils for $40, and a set of 4* bushings for $55.  Shipping is going to be about $50 though  :o.  New shocks will run about $100, and I've got some blocks to use in the rear.  Poor mans lift.

$50 shipping? That's crazy, I would shop around before I paid that much for shipping.

I thought so too, but then I priced basic 2.5" coils at other vendors, all of them were more just for the coils than the shipped cost from wildhorses.  Want to add anything to the order to save some of the shipping cost?

Yeah, I guess $40 for the coils is a good price.

I don't think I need anything right now. You may want to call Geof because he is getting ready to order front end parts for his Bronco. I spoke with him yesterday about the parts he needs.

Parts have been ordered.  I also got some 4* c-bushings with the springs.  I was going to get the 14 piece bushing set, but that would have added $30 of shipping.  I'll get the remaining bushings locally if they look like they need replacement.  Should be here in about a week.

Gary, are you running any of the steering geometry fixes, drop pitman, trackbar drop bracket, etc.?

$30 more for the rest of the bushings is a load of crap. Those bushing weigh less than a pound.

I have 7 degree bushings and 2.5" radius arm drop brackets. You shouldn't need the drop pitman/track bar with only 2.5" lift. I get a little bump steer but no more than it did when it was stock height.

yea, Mark said it would require a second box because he couldn't fit all of the bushings into the same box as the coils.  As it is, he is unpacking the C-bushings and making them fit with the coils.

I really have a hard time believing that. The other bushings are small, even if they wouldn't fit the second box would be tiny. I think the vendors make a good bit of profit from the shipping.

Sounds good to me; I did the same thing but I went with the 3.5" coils. I have not got any shocks yet. And yes, paying for shipping allway sucks

coils and c-bushings will be here tomorrow.  Bronco may be getting a raise soon...

New frame, all new suspension. Almost ready to put body back  8)on. Wildhorses kit, 4.5" lift. Single shock set up, can be blown out to quads. 11 leaf springs in rear. Progressive springs in the front. Adjustable track bar, drop pitman. One and done!

Lookin good. Do yourself a favor and don't put dual shocks on it. EBs are too light for dual shocks, it will just make it ride stiff. Even the wrong single shock can make it ride stiff.

I plan to stick with singles. I should add that I had a bad frame. So, while replacing the frame, it was a good time to put the setup where I wanted it. I pulled a 5.5" blocked lift out and replaced with 4.5". Should ride decent on the street, yet get me to the big bucks when needed!

The new frame looks good. Is it powder coated or painted?

Hey Parker, sorry about the highjack. ;)

I'm sorry too. Just wanted to suggest that wild horses makes good stuff and can help pick the right stuff to get your rig where you want it.

My lift rig was very home made, but well done. Yet in the end, I wound up pulling it all out and building "the right stuff". Wild horses has been awesome thru out the project. Well designed (although I will have a lot of suggestions for them to improve) and their technical support/advice has been excellent.

The frame was powder coated.

Didn't mean to take a detour. I plan to do a more modest lift on my other Bronco later. So, I'm very interested in Parker's project.

Hope I was a helpful.

I was just kidding ;D Don't worry, I'm sure Parker will highjack one of our threads one day. ;)

I save that kind of behavior for TORC :)

Want to stop by tonight and get your explorer stuff?  I'll be home around 5:45

got the rear blocks installed.  started working on the fronts and ran out of time.  Looks like I need to pull the tracbar in order to get the axle far enough forward to swap the c-bushings, and get the new springs into place.  Hoping to have it done tonight.

Yeah, it's a lot easier if you take the track bar off first. You're going to use your adjustable bar anyway right? Are you going to change the radius arm bushings while you are at it?

I'll look at the radius arm bushings, I think they are in good shape, so I may skip it.

They are a pain so if they look good, let them ride.

DONE!

Total time is about 6 hours, which isn't bad for one person.  I spent much less time chasing tools on this project, so that was nice.  I only just finished, so I haven't had a chance to test it out or even see how it sits.  I did go ahead and replace the c-bushings.  You have to remove the coils to get the c-bushings out, so I figured I might as well.  It had 2 degree bushings already, and I put 4 degree bushings in, as recommended by wildhorses.  I did not use the adjustable trac-bar.  I can tell that the axle is ~1/2" - 1" further to the driver's side, but I don't think I'll ever notice, certainly not worth the $130 trac-bar.

Now I need to get some new shocks.  I had monroe cheapies on it before, I'll probably just get more of the same.

cheap :)

That's a good price, those should work fine.

Are your old shocks bad?

The C bushings not being seated and tightened evenly causes the lean. There is a way to straighten it out a little without having to take them completely off. I found a post on CB that explained how. I did it to mine and it's now within 1/4". If I can find the post I'll send it to you.

after some reading, I think I'm going to hold off on any fixes for the lean until after I have some miles on it.  It could just be that the bushings need to seat a little better after cycling the suspension some.  And the amount of effort to fix the lean may not yield any results.  I'll report back more if I decide to tackle it.

found some 33x12.50 Dunlop Mud Rovers on craigslist for $125.  Picking them up on saturday, and we'll see how they look.

Well shoot.  Not I have a set of 33s and 35s.
Title: Re: 2.5" lift

35s will need more lift, it's a vicious cycle.

Looked into it, they should fit with 3.5" total lift :)
Title: Re: 2.5" lift

I have a total of 3.5" on mine and my 33s rub. If you put 35s on with only 3.5" you will destroy them like Blair did his new 35s on our last SOWEGA ride.

suppose I'll run the 33"s then.

Or cut the fenders out a lot.

wont matter its not the fenders that rubbed it was the inner fender wells

I have 1 inch body lift and 3.5 inch suspension lift and my 36" tires rubbed. when i was running 35" tires i had 2" body lift (3"blocks with no bushings) and 3.5" suspension lift and tires did not rub.

36" tires didnt rub anything on front just rear inner wells

depending on the size of the 35"s (all run different sizes) they may be ok with 3.5" lift
