Title: Fuel Tank Leak
Post by: JustaFordGuy on January 15, 2013, 09:26:21 AM
I've had a fuel leak from day 1 on my 77. I have pulled the tank several times and it is leaking around the sending unit. I pulled it again this weekend and I think I see the main problem. The large locking ring that holds the sending unit in on a 77 is plastic like the tank. Well mine is cracked. Also the flange that the sending unit sits against where the o-ring seals is now warped from me over tightening it. I tried a thicker o-ring and put a hose clamp around the cracked locking ring but I don't have much hope of this fixing the leak. I guess my only options are to find a good used tank (not likely for a 77), figure out how to use a stock replacement for an older year (no one make a replacement for a 77), or spend over $400 for a large after market tank. :-\

If anyone has any other ideas let me know.

I put gas in it today and so far it's not leaking from the sending unit.  ;D Now it's leaking BAD from the filler hose. :(

Hopefully I can just tighten the clamps and fix it.
