I struck OIL, but not in a good way.
« on: February 24, 2014, 08:57:46 AM »
Thanks to Advanced Auto parts I have struck oil, and not in a good way.  >:(

I picked up a case of oil Friday and one of the gallon jugs had no top so the entire gallon leaked out on to my passenger seat of the Bronco. The seat and carpet are ruined.

If anyone has any suggestions for getting oil out of carpet let me know.

I had a similar thing happen with a bottle of brake fluid. Someone had removed the foil seal and almost the whole bottle spilt on the back seat of my Chevy. Brake fluid and Greg leather don't mix. The manager at Discount said they would pay to fix it but when corporate got involved it was not worth the fight. I still have a big white spot on the backseat. Never spent another penny at Discount so they lost in the end.

I thought about complaining to Advanced but it was really Chevron's fault because the case was still sealed so Advanced had no way of knowing. It ain't worth fighting Chevron over.

yes I would fight Chevron, by the batch number they can tell if the production line was having issues that day. But to your question, WD40 used liberally. then wash with detergent like dish soap then repeat again and again until gone. After your done treat carpet and with protectants for each as you will have stripped all its native protection away.

So far I have used dawn dish washing detergent and a carpet shampoo machine (about 4 hours so far) and I have most of the oil out of the carpet. I have the seat dismantled and I'm soaking the foam and covers in a large bucket of dawn detergent. I'll let you know how it comes out.

Thanks Tony, I think the carpet is going to be OK but I'm not sure about the seat yet.

I ordered some new seats and they came in yesterday. I'll post some pictures when I get them mounted.

I got the new seats mounted. They mount very low to the floor, I think even lower that original seats. They look good other than the odd pattern sewn into the center of the back part of the seat. It's not very noticeable but the flash make it look worse than it is. The padding is very firm, but with my back I need a firm seat. I did have to drill new holes in the floor but I already have a bunch of extra holes in the floor anyway. What do you guys think?

That looks good. I was thinking about moving my seats back a bit too. You said you drilled new holes? How did you secure the bolts?

I like them.  What kind are they?  I have been thinking about getting a 60/40 bench from a ranger for mine.
